Radial ball bearings

Ball bearings are versatile bearings with a sturdy outer and inner ring and ball cage. These products, which have a simple design, robust performance and easy maintenance, are available in single and double-row designs and in open and closed versions. Due to the manufacturing process used, open bearings may have grooves in the outer ring for seals and protection. The low coefficient of friction makes them suitable for high speeds.

Open bearings are suitable for high to very high speeds.

Ball bearings with the suffix 2Z or ZZ have non-contacting sheet metal seals on both sides and are suitable for high speeds.

Bearings with the suffix 2RSR or 2RS1 or 2RSH or DDU or LLU have contact rubber seals on both sides made of nitrile-butadiene-rubber NBR and are suitable for moderate speeds.

On request, bearings with non-contacting rubber seals on both sides can be supplied. They came with suffix 2RZ or 2BRS or 2NKE or VV or LLB. These bearings have low friction equivalent to bearings with 2Z seals. If the inner ring is stationary and the outer ring rotates, the loss of lubricant is less than for bearings with Z seals.

Open bearings may be lubricated with grease or oil. Bearings with seals are lubricated at the factory for life with high quality grease and do not need to be relubricated.

Radial and axial load capacity

Due to the geometry of the guide channel of the balls used as rolling elements, deep groove ball bearings can support radial loads as well as small axial loads in both directions.

Misalignment compensation

The alignment of deep groove ball bearings is limited, so the alignment of the shaft and the housing where the bearings are mounted must be ensured. Misalignments can lead to unfavourable ball movement and cause additional stresses on the bearing, which shortens the service life. In order to minimise these loads, only small misalignments (depending on the load) are permissible for single row types.

Operating temperature

Open bearings can be used up to an operating temperature of +120 °C. If they are to be used at temperatures above +120 °C, please contact us. Bearings with a diameter D greater than 24 mm are dimensionally stable up to +200 °C. Bearings with rubber seals can be used at operating temperatures from -30 °C to +110 °C, but are limited by grease and seal ring material. Bearings with sheet metal seals can be used at operating temperatures from -30 °C to +120 °C. Bearings with a glass fibre reinforced polyamide housing/cage are suitable for operating temperatures up to +120 °C.

Bearing cage

Single-row ball bearings shall normally have a steel sheet cage. Bearings with a solid brass cage are designated M. The suffix Y indicates bearings with a sheet brass cage. Double row type have polyamide cages with glass fibre (suffix TVH). Check the chemical resistance of the polyamide to synthetic greases and lubricants with EP additives. Old oils and additives in the oil can damage the service life of plastic cages at high temperatures. Oil change intervals should be monitored.

Single row ball bearings

Single row bearings are the most commonly used type of ball bearing. They are manufactured in many sizes and shapes and are particularly cost-effective.

Corrosion protection

For applications requiring a high degree of corrosion protection, we offer open and sealed bearings made of stainless steel or polyamide materials that are resistant to corrosion.
